Our Story, Our Promise
The founders of ZellJoy are Ashanti & Dushani, two close friends from Burlington and Oakville, Ontario, Canada.
"During the pandemic in 2021, we bought more online than at the stores. Seeing boxes filled with so much plastic bubble wrap ending at our homes was the starting point. We switched from plastic bubble mailers to recycled paper mailers as online sellers in 2017 simply because we were conscious and did not want our packages ending in the oceans or landfills".
With a shared love for the beach, kayaking, and exact birthdates, our summers were spent on day trips with our kids picking up plastic trash while getting annoyed at those who left it on the beach. We discussed how much plastic is added unnecessarily to online orders and why no one did anything about it. We realized that no major online sellers required their sellers to be more environmentally conscious, and we cannot change major marketplaces. Therefore, we believed we could do this ourselves and began the journey of ZellJoy.
The name behind ZellJoy
We wanted to add "Joy" to the name as we want to inspire "joy" in what we do and bring "joy" to our Planet, buyers, and sellers. The word "Zell" was chosen because it resonated with the word "Sell." However, "SellJoy" was unavailable to buy as a domain, and we both agreed on "ZellJoy."
The ZellJoy Movement
As mothers, we ask what kind of Earth we leave behind for our children. With the "ZellJoy" Movement, we hope to create awareness and evoke change in people, for a better future for our children.
Why Mindfulness and Loving-Kindness to Our Earth?
- Awareness happens when "Mindfulness" happens.Â
- Mindfulness occurs when "Loving-Kindness" happens.
We believe in nurturing our children to love and be kind to one another and our environment, the stepping stone to a "Mindful citizen."Â
At ZellJoy, we bring these values to our marketplace and our sellers and evoke change within our sellers.
Our Vision
Bring mindful sellers and buyers together to reduce plastic pollution while creating awareness.
Our philosophy
"We bring Green eCommerce with meaningful transparency."
Thank you for reading our story.

NEEPA HUT by Jennifer Shum Abelev from California, USA
JENNIFER SHUM ABELEV is the Los Angeles-based social entrepreneur behind NEEPA HUT. Her desire to make a positive impact was sparked by spending time with artisan communities in Southeast Asia. Seeing the women practice their respective crafts, she was struck by their ingenuity and perseverance, despite their humble surroundings.
Motherhood, for her, took on a new significance after spending time with these women. Consequently, she traded her career in finance for a new challenge, focused on preserving the heritage of Southeast Asia artisans through NEEPA HUT.
The crafts of our artisans shape the social fabric of their villages, and help them provide for their children and families. It is their sense of community and togetherness that Jennifer hopes to extend through NEEPA HUT’s products.

Zero waste is a set of principles focused on waste prevention that encourages the redesign of resource life cycles so that all products are reused. The goal is for no trash to be sent to landfills, incinerators , or the ocean.
We are concerned that resorting to disposable items to fight the pandemic only reinforces its root causes. As such, we promote reusable solutions that work in the short- and in the long term.
SASAK MARKET by from Portugal
We decided to stay in Lombak, Indonesia
SARA - PAULO - LIZA - TIAGO
We are all longtime friends, but this is the first time we went traveling together. We love Nature, Surfing, and eating Tempeh so being "stuck" in Lombok in Indonesia seemed like a really good deal for us. On the other side, we didn't know what consequences this pandemic could bring.
We decided to stay!
Everything changed very fast. Within one week, after we made our decision, almost all the tourists escaped back to their countries and there were no more people getting to Lombok. Although we were happily safe, we saw that instantly a lot of shops, restaurants, and small businesses were closing due to the lack of tourism.
A financial catastrophe for all the locals around us. Seeing all of this happening was heartbreaking and we started to wonder how we could help this lovely community.
One day, after surfing there was this local woman selling some handmade products on the beach:Â
Beautiful Sarong towels, cute shell bracelets, and Rattan accessories. Every Piece was different. She told us that she didn’t sell anything during the whole day yet. “No Tourists, no business“ she said.
That was when we realized it!
We have to help them by selling their lovely products! This is our way to help.
SASAK MARKET by Kitty from Trout Lake neighborhood of Vancouver, BC, Canada.
It started with one cotton round...
Confronted with the amount of plastic my lifestyle was creating, I sought to create reusable products to swap out everyday single-use items.
With a few meters of fabric and no sewing skills, I FaceTimed my dad for help to transform them into facial rounds and bags.
This quickly budded into a (retired) father + (entrepreneurial) daughter project, which combined his 40+ years of textiles experience and my hope to leave the world a little bit better than how I found it.
